Originally designed as a set of sans-serif capitals based on the lettering on the Trajan column. Lincoln Gothic was awarded in the first Visual Graphics Corporation (VGC) National Typeface Competition in 1965 and produced as typositor strips. In the early 2000s, Lincoln added a lowercase and expanded the design into 12 weights plus italics. Produced by Bitstream and released as New Lincoln Gothic (used for the sample) in 2006. [MyFonts]
