Origin unknown. Appears in US catalogs around 1880. Shown in ATF catalogs after 1896 as French Antique No. 110.
One of many reversed contrast slabs under the “French Antique” name, but not compressed like the wood types. Very similar to Caslon’s French Antique. French Clarendon is similar but higher contrast.
