Based on the 1922 Klingspor model by German designer Rudolf Koch, this hand-drawn quill roman has an informal and curiously delicate appearance. The typeface was known in Germany as Koch-Antiqua and in the rest of Europe as Locarno. Eve, as it was called in the United States, continues to enjoy great popularity in advertising and book publishing circles.

    Wikipedia:

Bryan Ferry’s girlfriend (and soon to be wife) Lucy Helmore appeared on the album cover […] wearing a medieval helmet with a falcon perched on her gloved hand, evoking King Arthur’s last journey to the mysterious land of Avalon.

Eve is one of my favourites by the master Rudolf Koch. I found this by accident — I’m not into Roxy Music, but a fan of Rudolf Koch for sure!

Weiss works quite well as a text companion for Koch-Antiqua.

Thanks a lot for the patience and passion that make this a true community and for those like me who just started, this site and the work enthuse us more in the world of typography, sorry for the bad English.

Thank you for your contributions, Axl! Don’t let language barriers ever stop you. On the contrary — we are delighted to have contributors from all over the world.

I like your coverage. Please not that the Avalon cover location was in Galway, Ireland and not in the UK,

Thank you for the extra info, Gerry. Our “Artwork location” field aims to indicate where the graphic design work and especially the typography was done, which in this case probably was in London. But there’s no reason not to list the photo location, too. Added!
