For the words “Garage” and “Eingang” (entrance) on the facade of Hotel Gasthof Sonne in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, an anonymous sign painter modeled the letterforms on Delphin. This typeface was designed by Georg Trump and first cast as foundry type by C.E. Weber in Stuttgart in 1951.
Close-up view. “Garage” was spaced out to occupy the same width as “Eingang”. Unfortunately, the gap between r and a turned out too wide. In principle, the g with the flag terminal is a nice feature. When you have three of them in two words, it can get a little obtrusive. Delphin has an alternate double-storey form, too. Linotype also included it in the digital Pro version, but unfortunately it’s provided as PUA-encoded glyph, not as stylistic alternate.
