The musical career of the Chanter Sisters was mainly a backup/background singing career. From 1975 to 1978, Doreen and Irene Chanter released a handful of albums and singles for the American and European markets.

For this single cover of ‘Cuckoo-Cuckoo’, the designer based his design on the repetition in the name of the A-side track. Three double, tight-set lines with an indent for the second line; each line with its own typeface. As with other Polydor singles from Germany the typeface combination seems to be quite random.

To minimise empty space, the text is set very tight, with overlaps in the duo’s name (set in Gill Sans’ heavy weight) and with overlapping O’s in ‘Cuckoo-Cuckoo’ (set in filled-in Stack). Notice the repurposed umlaut after the first Cuckoo that seems to be used as a hyphen here.
